Don’t Play With Your Food

My brother is a farmer, he has goats, cows, sheep, rabbits, chickens, pigs…all is meals are fresh and organic, 85% of the food he eats comes from his farm. A few weeks ago his daughter call to complain about an issue she was having with her dad. Apparently, she had ‘adopted’ one of the goats on the farm, it was her favorite pet (don’t know why she needed another pet – they have several dogs, birds, cats, fish, turtles and the list goes on). Anywho, her pet goat went missing and turned up as the entrée at a party that her parents hosted. “Auntie, I am so upset with them I can hardly speak” ps, she is 6 going on 16. ” I have nothing and no one to play with, can you take me to the zoo” . Not only did I take her to the zoo, I designed a special blanket for her. She maybe a bit too old for this print, but she has younger siblings who will be able to use it.I designed a special blanket for her. I added the goats – RIP Stanley – some playful tigers – the ones at the zoo looked very angry.
I added a little fawn – I don’t think that she has seen Bambi – note to self, tell brother to start a therapy fund, ask if B. has seen Bambi.
I think this addition is cute, so I would hate to have to remove it – but I would, I don’t want to traumatize her further.
Next, I added some birds, butterflies and some banana trees. They have several acres of banana and plantain trees on the farm – My brother grow these for export. I also a little pond – my brother raises fresh water fish – (tasty – I love fish – I think I will do a koi pond next project) – the goats are always drinking from the pond. Since I love flowers, I added a few as well as a few bugs – B. like bugs. As with most of my drawings, I added some hills – ’cause they remind of home – Jamaica – I completed the piece with a few rocks. Now lets put them all together and see what we have…..

Now I need to print the image to fabric. I need to make the blanket 35×45 inches, but my wide format printer maxes out at 24 inches wide, so www.spoonflower.com to the rescue. I uploaded the file to there server and in less than 1 week I have this…

I am hoping to complete the blanket before she enters college. I will be working on it this week, check back next week for the completed blanket.

Wow, I’ve never heard of spoonflower.com — I’ll have to check it out. What a cute idea to print the image out onto fabric — I can think of a million fun things to do with that! Thanks for sharing!

What an absolutely darling creation! It is bright & colorful & delightful for the eyes! Have not heard of this process … but then I can’t sew worth a stitch!

My grandma had a favorite cow as a child and unfortunately the same thing happened. She got over it. I am sure that your niece will have a better understanding of food because of this. Did you get her a new kid? This craftis beautiful I love how you inported the images to fabric. So cool. She will love it
